Health Policy
The idea of improving health & wellbeing is now very high on the agenda of NHS Fife, Fife Council and the Scottish Executive and as such many new plans and policies are being developed. The reason behind this change is that rather than treat health problems, statutory bodies are realising that approaches that seek to improve a persons health before there are problems, address health inequalities in communities and seek to create healthier environments are some the best ways to improve health in the longer term.
Fife Council now has a Social Work and Health Committee, recognising the link between social problems and health problems. Fife’s Health & Wellbeing Alliance has created a Health Improvement Fund, the purpose of which is to provide pockets of money to test new ideas and activities in Health Improvement work. The Alliance has also has a new Healthy Weight Strategy which seeks to address weight problems that lead to obesity, heart disease and other health problems.
As new policies are developed and new consultations are introduced by the Scottish Executive, Fife Council and other sources, they will be posed here. In the meantime, please see the links below for futher information:
If you have any policy questions please contact Lyndsay Macadam at CVS Fife.
