The scheme is open to any 'formally' constituted community group with office bearers and a bank account. The scheme must enjoy the support and participation of the local community. Examples of groups include:

• social groups - youth groups, playgroups, religious groups, etc
• local representative groups - community and village councils, residents' associations, etc
• common interest groups - sports clubs, local natural history societies, 50+ groups, Chambers of Commerce, etc

The Community Grant Scheme is available to help people take a more active role in enjoying and managing the natural heritage in their local area by:

• increasing awareness and understanding of local heritage
• improving degraded areas through active management
• improving access for all
• acquiring and managing land
• supporting communities to develop their longer-term capacity to undertake and manage projects

Applications may be submitted at any time - there is no closing date for bids.
