Applicant Criteria

Grants available only to to organisations invited to bid - see below.

Funding Criteria

From 2007 to 2012, the Fund's grant-making activities will be grouped under three initiatives, each of which has a desired outcome and a set of strategic objectives to be achieved over five years. The three initiatives are:

  • The Palliative Care Initiative, under which the Fund is committed to spending up to £10 million over five years to promote the scale-up of palliative care in Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and its integration into their governments' health policies.
  • The Refugee and Asylum Seekers Initiative, under which the Fund is committed to spending up to £10 million over five years to raise awareness and highlight the needs and issues of young refugees and asylum seekers.
  • The Partnership Initiative, under which the Fund is committed to spending up to £5 million over five years to follow-up and add leverage to our previous investments into penal affairs, mental health and other areas in the UK, and internationally into our programme on landmines and explosive remnants of war. For further information, visit: Local Voices, Global Ban

Amounts Awarded

Grant-making under these initiatives will primarily be proactive in nature. Grants will be provided on an invitation-to-bid basis or through negotiated partnerships with selected organisations that have the capacity to deliver the initiatives' desired outcomes. Projects will be rigorously assessed against the strategic objectives, and to maximise impact grants will be awarded for up to five years with a mid-term review. Applications for these proactive programmes are by invitation only.

Clasing Dates

The fund will not be awarding any grants in 2006. The fund will be launching the new grants round early in 2007.
