Applicant Criteria

We will fund:

  • Community, self-help and voluntary groups.
  • Community charities (or local branches of national charities)

The proposed project must benefit a local community in which at least one of the Co-operative Group's businesses trades.

Funding Criteria

Your application will be scored against the following criteria:

  • does it benefit the local community in the catchment area of a Co-operative Group business?
  • does it fulfil a perceived need in the local community by addressing community issues such as health, the environment and community safety?
  • does it target disadvantaged groups or areas within the community?
  • is it in line with co-operative values and principles?
  • will it provide a short or long-term benefit for a section of the community through providing equipment, delivering a physical benefit to the group (for instance access to a community hall for people with a disability), training or education?
  • does it show imagination in its approach (for example, different or innovative approaches to old problems)?

Amounts Awarded

Although awards can range from £100 to £5,000, please be aware that due to the high number of quality applications, the average award size in 2005 was £713, with the vast majority of awards being between £100 and £500.
