Applicant Criteria

Any existing or new organisation, partnership, or consortium of organisations can bid for funding under this grant programme. However, the CERS grant programme aims to support projects that are community based. The fund is particularly keen to see applications submitted from community organisations such as Community Councils or local community groups, or organisations from the public, private or voluntary sector acting on behalf of local communities and with the full engagement of those communities.

Funding Criteria

The Community Environmental Renewal Scheme (CERS) offers support for projects that will improve the local environment of communities affected by quarrying.

The CERS grant scheme aims to support a range of community based projects that:

  • improve the local environment for communities within 5 miles of a quarry or which have been impacted by quarrying
  • involve the local community and demonstrate social and/or economic benefit to the local community

To be considered eligible for grant, one of the following must apply:

Projects within 5 miles of a quarry will not need to demonstrate a link with quarrying, but will have to fit within the following themes:

  • landscape and community recreation
  • habitat restoration and local biodiversity
  • protection of historic environment
  • pollution mitigation
  • geological work

or

Projects more than 5 miles from a quarry will be eligible if they address some impact of quarrying activity and fit within one of the 5 themes listed above (e.g. visual impact, noise, dust, pollution, transport, loss of habitat). This would mainly apply to routes affected by quarry traffic.

Amounts Awarded

Up to £50,000 to projects that involve the local community and can demonstrate local social or economic benefits.

Clasing Dates

The next deadline for CERS applications is 23rd of November 2005
