Fundraising Standards Board Pilot Project Launch

The Fife pilot project for the Fundraising Standards Board, unique in Scotland, was launched on Tuesday 6th March at an event attended by over 70 representatives of Fife charities, voluntary organisations and community groups.

The project, a partnership between CVS Fife and VONEF, aims to raise awareness of the Fundraising Standards Board Membership Scheme amongst the local voluntary sector in Fife and explore different ways of encouraging organisations in Fife to join up: what works in Fife will be rolled out across Scotland and the UK following the pilot.

The launch event was chaired by Kate Higgins, Scotland & Northern Ireland Manager with the Fundraising Standards Board, who highlighted the benefits of signing up to the membership scheme, which enables organisations to use the Giving with Confidence quality kitemark. She also argued that while there is a cost attached to membership of the FSB scheme, taking out membership has the potential to generate more donations for charitable and voluntary organisations, as stakeholders have increased confidence that their donation is going directly to the good cause they want to support.

Catherine Rawlinson-Watkins, Fundraising Manager at Bethany Christian Trust, followed up Kate's speech with an explanation of why her organization had taken the decision to join the FSB, giving attendees the opportunity to hear direct testimony from a current member. Carole Patrick, Deputy Manager at CVS Fife, then carried on the launch event by giving a bit of context to the Fife Project, and introducing the new Project Worker, Lyndsay Macadam, who is due to take up post at the end of March. Helen Rorrison, Manager at VONEF, brought the launch proceedings to a close, and attendees then had the opportunity to browse information stalls being manned by a number of funders, including the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.
