The training partnership of Adam Smith College, CVS Fife and Volunteer Centre Fife, now entering its 7th year, is very pleased to offer you a new opportunity to turn your attendance at our FREE training courses into an accredited qualification.
In the past, our courses of one- and two- days' training may have merited a certificate of attendance, but for many, there was an expressed need to turn that learning into something more substantial and portable. Last year, we introduced SVQs in Customer Services, and this option is still open to those for whom meeting the public is a significant part of their role.
This year, starting with Management subjects, we are re-designing our courses so that while they can still stand alone for someone who wishes to simply find out about the subject, they can also be used as the knowledge and understanding base for those wishing to attempt Management SVQs at Level 3, 4 or 5.
SVQ Level 3 in Management and Leadership is for those who are junior managers/supervisors/first line managers likely to be managing a small unit or a senior member of an operational team; it is a vocational qualification that assesses the skills and knowledge you use every day in your workplace. In order to achieve the qualification, you must compile a portfolio record which demonstrates your competence in 7 units (4 mandatory units and 3 optional choices). Management and Leadership SVQ Levels 4 and 5 take that demonstration further, for those who have considerable experience or seniority in their organisation.
The voluntary and social enterprise sector has increasing opportunities for people who are skilled in managing and leading; this qualification route allows you to prove that you have achieved a level of competence which can be taken into any organisation.
The procedure will be to book yourself on any courses you think suitable as usual, but if you are looking to build these (or previous similar courses) into a qualification, then we will be having a number of events (see below for dates) at which you can come and find out more about the process.

To achieve SVQ Level 5 Management, you need to be assessed against 4 mandatory and 3 optional units; to achieve SVQ Level 4, you need to be assessed against 5 mandatory and 3 optional units; to achieve SVQ Level 3, you need to be assessed against 4 mandatory and 3 optional units.
As yet, our current programme doesn't provide workshops in the full range of units which are available. However, we will be expanding on these in the next brochure (available from February), and our assessors can also help you to work towards the achievement of other units in areas in which you have experience/expertise.
Delegates who attend CVS computer application courses will now have the opportunity to work towards a recognised ICT Qualification.
Previously, our one or two day courses were designed purely to gain a better understanding of an application and to work quicker and more efficiently. We delivered courses i.e. Excel at Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Many of you asked if it were possible to convert them into an accredited qualification as proof of competency which you would be able to build upon.
Now you will be able to follow a designed path to combine a series of "grouped" courses to attain a qualification.
These qualifications will be to Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) standard and be within the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework (SCQF). It is expected to be able to offer SVQ Level 3 and 4 in Information and Communication Technology.
There will be further information regarding this to follow and we will be having a number of informal events where you can come along and find our more.
"ILA Scotland is a simple way to get up to £200 a year towards the cost of learning something new. It's a Scottish Government scheme for people with an income of £18,000 a year or less or who are on benefits. The money is not a loan - so you don't have to pay any of it back.
All you have to do is make a minimum contribution of &pund;10 towards the cost of each course that you do (the total amount you have to contribute will depend on the overall cost of the course and whether or not your learning provider has to charge VAT on the cost of their courses)."
You can use your ILA towards a number of IT courses available out with the standard courses on offer in the Training Program such as the European Computer Driving Licence (Standard or Advanced) or PC Passport.
